Hola! My name is Maia. In January I graduated from William & Mary as a part of Virginia’s 2+2 program: 2 years at a community college and 2 years at a college/university. At William & Mary I majored in Global Studies with a concentration in Latin America, and I minored in Data Science. I am both a first-generation and low-income college student from downtown Newport News. I understand the unique challenges that low-income and minority students from inner city schools/neighborhoods face. I am thankful to be part of an organization that provides students with resources and mentorship from those who may have walked in their shoes. I now work in the business sector of insurance, but outside of First-Gen Place and work, I can be found doing yoga, kayaking, channeling my inner barista in my kitchen, or jamming to Bad Bunny.
